Critters

I have a life-long habit of rescuing things on four legs that need a good home. I wonder where I picked that habit up. They’re all very much a part of our lives – just like family. Fostering and/or adopting animals in need and making donations to organizations that do the same has been as much a part of our lives as gardens, wildlife, and birding.

“OH NO!!” (If I would just stay off dirt roads that are miles and miles from nowhere and stop chasing birds …

Cool Cletus This is Cletus, rescued 6/26/09, presumed abandoned or lost since he emerged from the woods and came towards our truck at the entrance of the dirt road, trembling, very scared but also very happy to see someone. The road is a popular area where dogs are purposefully taken to be abandoned. It was obvious this one had been abandoned or was lost. About 7 months old. We are awaiting on any calls from ads posted yesterday …. and waiting….

But if we get no calls, he can stay parked with us.

This is Miss Jolly, last year’s rescue case.

Miss Mama Jolly

Miss Mama Jolly

She was rescued last year from an old fishing shack way out in the woods. She stole everyone’s heart the minute we laid eyes on her. It was obvious someone had abandoned her, and it was obvious she was pregnant. Home with me she went. Three weeks later she delivered nine beautiful, healthy puppies.

It was the highlight of our lives for a few good months. All but one of the eight pups was placed in great homes – this one below, who was dubbed “ChewBacca” (appropriately so) from the first time we saw his mug.

Made in the shade, spayed, and will reproduce NO MORE!

Below is Lucky , 13 years old, and he has it made in the shade, too. He was rescued from a kill shelter in Baton Rouge LA 12 years ago by my sister. Mom and dad fell in love with him and brought him home 12 years ago to retire with them. He’s a Tarheel fan for sure! He is my dad’s constant companion and shadow….

This is Miss Fatz, AKA “Fatty Girl”, who’s 13 years old. She was rescued many years ago and lives the Life of Riley like the rest of ‘em. She’s boss!

This is Spider Cat, who’s 6 – also rescued. Just a little spoiled.

Here are some “Famous Best Friends” of our past. They gave us their hearts and will live in ours forever.
